This afternoon at 13:08, Station 3 was dispatched for a fire in the Sykesville area of Howard County. Howard County Communications received several calls for a barn on fire in the 13500 block of Old Frederick Road in the 3-61 box, bringing the West Friendship VFD and surrounding companies. Engine 31 arrived to find an outbuilding on fire, approximately 20 feet by 20 feet, and pulled an attack line. 31 had dropped a split lay halfway up the driveway on the way in, and Engine 131 completed the split while Tanker 3 proceeded back to the scene to supply Engine 31. Tanker 13 dropped its folding tank at the end of the driveway and utilized Engines 41 and 44 for water supply. Units extinguished the fire quickly; it is believed to have been started by heat lamps in the barn that were used to keep the animals inside warm. Chief 3A held the Old Frederick Command, no animals perished in the fire, and units cleared at 15:10.
