In recognition of the National Fire Protection Association's Fire Prevention Week, today we opened the doors of the station for our annual Open House. Fire Prevention Week has been observed in October since 1922 in remembrance of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871 that caused great destruction and left 100,000 people homeless. This year's theme is Smoke Alarms - Make Them Work For You! Take a moment to ensure there are smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on each level of your home. Also remember to test them monthly and replace them every 10 years. Visitors to the WFVFD were able to take tours, check out the apparatus, take a ride in the bucket of Tower 3, test their stamina in a firefighter obstacle course, check out volunteer opportunities, and meet and ask questions of members. If you weren't able to make it, we are always looking for new volunteers - check out our recruitment page linked below. Thank you to all who came out!
